Department of Education Orders Schools to Make Sports Available to Students with Disabilities

In a landmark decision, the Department of Education has ordered that students with disabilities be given access to sports in U.S. schools. However, if they are able to compete, measures must be taken to allow them to participate. Several states, such as Maryland, have already implemented this policy. This is arguably a decision that will affect student-athletes with disabilities in the same manner that Title IX changed the landscape for female student athletes.
