Stony Brook Plans to Build Spinal Cord Injury Rehab Facility

Stony Book's School of Health Technology and Management is working with Los Angeles-based NextStep Fitness to build the organization’s first fitness and wellness facility in New York for people with paralysis and spinal cord injuries.

Stony Brook estimates that 600 people in New York sustain spinal cord injuries annually. This facility will be the first of its kind in New York state. NextStep, which is a nonprofit founded by Janne Kouri, a former Georgetown football player paralyzed in a swimming accident, hopes to open a similar facility in the near future in the Washington, D.C. area.
